Chapter Two
A month has passed since the events of the
previous chapter. Misaki Yuki heads out on a late September weekend
to the Kawasaki Homecoming game against their rival school St
Nickots Academy. We find that he has been busy training and while
they have made efforts to include the former Lord Hawk, Dave
Btwys-y-Cawr, he remains distant. Yuki however is more focused on
asking Kelly to the Homecoming Dance later that night.
Yuki arrives at the game and meets up with Joe just as St Nickots
rookie phenom, Tom Brisket enters the game for the first time in the
3rd quarter. Kawasaki's own rookie star, Dawson VanBrocklin had been
stellar so far in holding St nickots to zero points. However when
Tom injured Dawson and subsequently scores on the very first play,
the game turns into a rout.
As Tom continues to pound the Kawasaki football team, Kelly and
Key are seem at the concession stand. Key indicates that she would
like to ask Yuki to the dance, but Kelly interrupts her when she
senses Tom's spirit on the field. She tells Key to go back to where
they had met Joe earlier and that she will catch with them soon.
Meanwhile a guilt ridden Dave remains hidden underneath the
bleachers during the game. He is surprised by a girl named Julienne.
The girl quickly befriends Dave and lets it known that she is
friends with Tom brisket. The two part at the end of the game, but
not before Dave stammers out that his name is Hawk.
Just as Julienne catches up with Tom she overhears Kelly confront
Tom about his spirit use. Tom tells her to stay out of his business.
Kelly is more than happy to comply just as long as Tom gets the hell
out of Kawasaki.
Back in the stands, Key finds Yuki and discovers that Joe had got
up to go find them since they had not returned after the game ended.
While Yuki is still preoccupied with the topic of how to ask Kelly
to the dance, Key surprises him by asking him. He says yes.
Later that night at the dance, everything seems to go reasonably
well until Tom brisket shows up to try and find Yuki. He believes
that Yuki may have had something with the death of his true love,
Beth. Kelly confronts Tom, but Tom neutralizes her by exposing her
true name to be "Hello Kelly". After the entire school erupts in
laughter, Kelly leaves angry that she even attempted to help. Yuki
and Key slip out unnoticed right after her.
Just when things are about to take a bad turn, Dave shows up and
tells Tom he will take Tom to Yuki. Joe, who has remained behind, is
horrified to discover that Dave may never have been truly good. Dave
leads Tom and Julienne away, but only to keep Tom from doing any
more harm. He tells Tom that he has no intention of leading him to
Yuki and that he will defeat him right there.
The fight seems even until Tom reveals that he too possesses a
ninja Weapon called the Earthshaker. His attack breaks Dave and
leaves him bad condition. Thinking fast, Dave is able to stop Tom
from causing more havoc by saying Yuki is busy training and that if
Tom gives Yuki a week, Yuki will defeat him in battle. Tom agrees
and Dave's gamble pays off. Tom and Julienne leave as Joe runs in to
get Dave to the hospital.
Yuki, Key, and Joe meet up at the hospital later in the night.
All seems lost till Tenko appears and says that he will train Yuki.
Joe hangs back after Yuki and Key go home and finds Kelly paying a
surprise visit to Dave in his hospital room. Kelly is discovered to
have healed Joe in the first chapter and also heals Dave as best she
can now. She leaves after tempting Joe in joining her and gaining
the power he secretly craves in order to beat Yuki, his friend and
ultimate rival.
Yuki's training commences the next day and with Tenko and Joe's
help he masters the defensive half moon Technique, Hangetsu Junsai.
It is a power that will create a water shield.
The very next day, Tom waits for Yuki to arrive at their
predetermined fight. He chagrined to find Joe, Key, and even Tenko
show up. He is placated though, when Yuki shows up soon after. The
fight goes entirely Yuki's way as his speed seems to be winning over
Tom's strength, but unfortunately Yuki's stamina cannot hold up and
he succumbs to Tom's devastating attacks. Just as Tom is about to
land the killing blow, Julienne jumps in to shield Yuki. She asks
Tom to stop with her dying breath, but Tom tearfully says that he
cannot.
With a stroke of inspiration, Yuki gambles on a new power which
would use his newly acquired supersonic speed to turn into a lethal
battering ram. Before he can impale Tom, he realizes Tom has been
waiting for his death and instead uses the Hangetsu Junsai to batter
Tom with the shield and not his Hyourinken. The attack defeats Tom
and Tom explains how he has always felt guilty when his love Beth
died and he was not there to share her fate.
Just as things are about to die down, two new ninjas in cloaks
show up and drain Yuki and Tom of their spirit. Since Tom is unable
to fight, Yuki tries to take both of them on to protect Tom. He is
about to be defeated when a fully healed Dave shows up. He takes on
both ninjas to a standstill when Kelly shows up. She says that
she is the Japanese sun goddess reincarnated and that she intends to
recover her power to rule the world as she sees fit. Yuki tries to
talk some sense into her, but is betrayed by Joe who has decided to
take Kelly up on her offer to make him more powerful than Yuki.
Kelly, Joe, and the two ninjas leave with a warning that should
anyone interfere with their plans, they will kill them.
While this is going on, Julienne finds herself in the spirit
world confronted by Beth. Beth, a priestess of the Japanese Moon God
Tsukiyomi tells Julienne that she is not dead. She tells her to go
back and get Yuki, Tom, AND Dave to work together to defeat Kelly.
Julienne returns to life and manages to get everyone to go to
Tahou's to tell them what she has learned from Beth. Yuki, Dave, and
key seem to be on board when Tom gets up to go. Yuki seems worried
that Tom will not help them, but Tom explains that he will not help
defeat Yuki's friends, but to save them. Tom and Julienne leave on
good terms as the night draws to a close...
