Chapter One Misaki
Yuki finds himself confronted by a Myobu Kitsune named Tenko and is given the
responsibility of becoming a ninja of the Japanese Moon God
Tsukiyomi and saving the world. He is given the legendary Hyourinken
(Moon Blade) and is told that the Japanese God of Evil, Amatsu
Mikaboshi, is planning on unleashing hell on earth. He accepts the
task and heads off to school to stop the impending disaster.
Once in school he gets help from his best friend,
Johannesburg Michalangelo Lockhart the Tenth, or Joe for short.
After a bit of explaining and the small distraction from Yuki's
crush, Kelly, Joe believes Yuki. The two try and decide on what to
do, but are interrupted by the appearance of Kappa, a Japanese Water
Demon. Yuki is upset when Joe leaves him to fight the Kappa.
During his fight with the Kappa, Yuki realizes that the
Hyourin-ken imbues him with "magically jacked speed". He uses this
to try and defeat the kappa, but unfortunately, his speed cannot
make up for the size deficiency of his sword. When Yuki tries to
attack a second time, the Hyourin-ken slips from his grasp. To the
surprise of both Yuki and the Kappa, it disappears mid-flight,
reappears behind the kappa and impales him in the back of the head.
Watching from the sidelines is a mysterious figure named Lord
Hawk, a general of Amatsu Mikaboshi. He expresses his displeasure at
the Kappa's failure as he has a conversation with Rei; who is
apparently a voice without a body. Lord Hawk then reveals his new
super mega evil genius plan. He will capture Joe Lockhart and force
Yuki to give up the Hyourin-ken!!
Meanwhile, Yuki is thrown in the Time Out room by Dean Brandes
for leaving the Kappa carcass on school grounds. He is sent a
message from Lord Hawk. Due to the ambiguous nature of the message,
Yuki mistakenly believes that it is Kelly who is in danger and not
Joe. He rushes off immediately to Kelly's house to try and protect
her.
Once he arrives at Kelly's house, Yuki unwisely decides to break
in to "check" in on Kelly. Kelly then returns home from school to
find Yuki lurking in her bedroom. After Yuki explains everything to
her, Tenko reappears to give Yuki some more information on the
Hyourinken.
According to Tenko, the sword hides four separate techniques that
correspond with the phases of the moon. When Yuki fell and threw the
Hyourinken by accident, he had luckily activated the crescent moon
"Engetsuzan" technique.
Armed with this knowledge, Yuki begins to train in the Engetsuzan
technique in Kelly's backyard. He does this thinking he still has
over two hours to kill before the deadline Lord Hawk had given him.
Yuki finds mastering the technique hard until Kelly lends him a pair
of gloves which he thinks allow him a better grip when he throws the
Hyourinken. Yuki's celebration is short-lived however when he
discovers the real time and realizes he will be almost an hour late!
Yuki rushes off on a pink banana bike that Kelly lends him.
Joe tries his best to stall Lord Hawk, but Lord Hawk stabs his in
the stomach. Yuki arrives a moment later and is upset to find out he
is a tad late. He begins his fight with Lord Hawk and right off the
bat he tries using the Engetsuzan technique. Yuki fails miserably as
the Hyourinken fails to reappear and Yuki is left weaponless.
Lord Hawk then mounts his offensive using the magical spear known
as the Susanoyari. Yuki is surprised and relieved to find that even
without the Hyourinken in his possession that he still has magically
jacked speed. Using that speed he is able to dodge Lord Hawk's
attacks, but fails to mount any of his own.
Lord Hawk then announces that he has seen enough of Yuki's moves
to be able to use his super evil ultra mega genius mind to predict
which moves yoke will use in any situation. Yuki thinks it's all a
bluff. However when Lord Hawk connects with his first hit Yuki
realizes it is not. Yuki is bloodied and beaten up in a matter of
minutes. Lord Hawk tries to finish Yuki off by using his Lightning
Execution technique that actually allows him to hurl bolts of
lightning from the Susanoyari.
It is at this point when Joe wakes up to find himself the
afterlife in the company of a Japanese man dressed like Elvis. The
man introduces himself as Vase Holystar and explains that the world
is on the brink of destruction due to the imbalance caused by the
massive influx of humans in hell. Joe wishes to see it for himself.
Vase gives him a crystal that indeed allows Joe to glimpse into hell
and before his mind is lost in the "spiral" a flame burns brightly
around him.
Joe wakes up to find himself very much alive and without the
deadly wound that lord hawk had inflicted upon him. He is also
surprised to see Kelly has appeared to help them out. She mentions
that she had found Yuki's Hyourinken lying near Joe and that she
also has a plan to help.
Kelly then joins the fray by distracting Lord Hawk with a huge
cloud of gravel. While Lord Hawk is distracted, Joe tosses the
Hyourinken to Yuki. Lord Hawk uses his Lightning Execution to knock
out Kelly and the final fight between Yuki and Lord Hawk begins.
Yuki mounts a huge comeback as he follows Kelly's parting advice
as how the Engetsuzan really worked and is able to use the technique
to cause serious damage to Lord Hawk. Before Yuki is able to finish
him off, Lord Hawk tries one more Lightning Execution. He misses and
that is when yoke realizes that Lord Hawk had never cleaned the
gravel off his sunglasses and that he even still wore them in the
dark.
Yuki puts two and two together and uses a feint to attack Lord
Hawk's sunglasses. He succeeds and Lord Hawk is finally defeated.
They all find out that lord Hawk's real name was David Btwys-y-Cawr
and that he is a classmate of theirs.
It is then that the Nogitsune Reiko comes flying out of the
broken sunglasses that Dave had been wearing. It turns out that
Reiko has been influencing Dave until Dave had finally become
convinced he was Lord hawk. Reiko promises that this will not be the
end of Amatsu Mikaboshi's plan to eradicate humankind and
disappears.
Meanwhile, Tenko and Vase are seen conversing in the afterlife.
the two seem good friends as they confirm that not only is Reiko
involved, but that his involvement means that Amatsu's plans are
close to their conclusion.
Back on Earth, Yuki, Joe, Kelly, and Dave finish the endless day
by eating at Nick Tahoe's. Thus finishing a chapter in the best way
possible...
