"Yeah that took a little time..." Thursday May 15th 2008

When I made my first animated gif panel I was worried that it wouldn't look right in the comic. I was banking on the fact that with NS forgoing the traditional manga panel format and going with a more structured storyboard format it would work well enough. I think after 400+ comics I've gotten a little better at them and the only reason why they are still in the comic is because the readers have given me such positive reviews about them. If it hadn't been for you we wouldn't have this marathon session of animated panels. It was a pain in the ass, but I am happy with the result and thinking that you all night like the end result made the hard work worth it.

So the consequence was that the file sizes for these images were huge and I am going to be mad tired at work on Friday. I like to keep the animated gifs to the smaller 250x250 panels and limit the number of frames to keep them at manageable levels. However I really wanted today's comic to go as big as possible without worrying about file size constraints. As for the sleep, I'll catch up over the weekend.

As for the story side of this comic I wanted to point out more of what happens when Yuki uses his shadowstepping ability. It's effects are hinted at in the last chapter, but it's pretty much all spelled out here. In his ever ongoing quest to become faster, Yuki has finally broken through the one barrier that might have been impossible to break... time. The ability is not perfect as both Yuki's need for the Rouga armband and as Joe so aptly demonstrates right in this comic. Just what did Joe do? Well you'll have to wait for that one. To sum it up, Yuki is able to see right into the future and then step right into that future. To those facing the power they simply see Yuki fade out and then next thing they know he's right where they don't want him to be.

For you action buffs this was a great change of pace from all the drama and plot that I was giving you all these past few comics. Bear with me though because we're going right back to that for about 2 or 3 more comics. In brighter news you can expect a change of scenery in about two weeks. Maybe one if I decide on shortening the next scene. I won't spoil it, but there might be a tad bit more action when we move to a new location.

In other news the Battle of Spirit IV is over and the winner this time around and most popular Ninja Spirit character as voted by the fans is Johannesburg Michelangelo Lockhart the Tenth!! I hope you enjoyed this event and you can catch up on all the results on the Battle of Spirit page. I suppose now would also be a good time to announce the winners of the Battle of Spirit IV Contest. The contest ended with a tie in points between two players, both of whom amassed 18 points. It came down to the first tiebreaker of who correctly guessed the finals winner and so without further ado the winners...

Runner Up and winner of the signed NS Otakon '07, NY Animefest '07 prints, and a 5 Spot V2.0 sticker is... K.C.!!!

The winner of the grand prize of the Limited Edition Spirit 400 Poster is... Az_the_Destroyer!!!

I'll contact both of you by email to confirm the shipping address is correct and once that happens I will be sending out your prizes. So please be on the look out for that email later on today.

Congratulations to Az and K.C. and to all the rest of the contest entrants. Thanks for playing and we'll do it all over again in another 96 comics!! I'm sure it'll be as fun and exciting as it was this time around. I think that's about it for now. It's bed time for me and I will see you all next week. Have a great weekend everyone!!
