"Misunderstandings" Thursday
April 24th, 2008
I really liked writing this short intro for Chapter 6. There isn't a
lot of action, but I do like the interaction and the drama being used. I
was pretty happy with the way the drawings came out. Nothing really
kills me and I definitely like how Yuki and Key are figuratively split
in half during most of the comic by the panels themselves. I then used a
side shot of both of them from opposing sides to give the impression
that they are facing one another then they are both just facing forward.
It all then collides together in the last panel when Yuki breaks the
barrier and takes a hold of Key to tell her how he feels. It was hard
getting the script to fit around the concept, but I'm glad it worked
out. I don't think this is something a lot of people will realize when
they read the above comic, but maybe it hits you on an subliminal level?
I do realize that some of you may be a little confused about what
exactly went down since some of the things Key and Yuki are talking
about are from two chapters ago. here are some links to fill you in to
just how this conversation played itself out.
This is when Key confesses to Yuki back in
Spirit 252. You find out that Yuki does the
dick move of walking out on Key without
saying a word when Key relates her confession story to Julienne in
Spirit 266. Just when Yuki is about to tell Key that he's always
liked Kelly, he gets interrupted by Sydney and thus Key thinking Yuki
liked Sydney. This happens back in Spirit
311. The reason why Key is confused about Joe and why she thinks he
lied to her is because of went down a strip
after that in Spirit 312. Without saying Sydney's name Key asks Joe
"if Yuki liked her all this time". Joe thinking that Yuki finally told
Key that he liked Kelly, thinks Key is talking about Kelly and confirms
her question. C'mon you didn't think I threw that little
misunderstanding in there just for kicks did you? It only took a chapter
for it to come to a head. Anyway I hope that clears up just went down in
today's comic!
The Battle of Spirit still rages on and I hope you all
continue to support your favorite characters as you all decide just who
the most popular Ninja Spirit character is. I just want to remind
everyone that there will be no battles over the weekend and that the
voting will resume on Monday with the Dave VS Sydney battle! There are
battles every weekday so be sure to vote daily!
I don't think I have any other news to mention... Oh I
have recently been back in contact with some old friends. One of whom
who I shamelessly stole the standard "In Which..." for the comic titles.
She was and is mad clever and witty like that. I felt it prudent to wish
them well on their endeavors in love and in school.
I also wanted to mention that I did get a copy of The
World Ends With You for my DS and it is easily the best game I own for
that system. Of course I am also a hardcore fanboy of the Kingdom Hearts
games for the PS2. I am on record of saying that I will only buy a next
gen console when they tell me which one the next Kingdom Hearts is
coming out for. So take my proclamation with a grain of salt. That being
said this game is crazy. You use the sytlus to control the main
character on the touch screen and you move and attack using various
strokes and touches. To add to that craziness you have to control a
second character on the top screen using the D-pad. keep in mind that
you share health between characters and that they are attacking the same
enemies. It makes for one hell of a combat system and a test of your
multitasking skills. I haven't gotten far in the game yet since I had to
get this comic done and because I watch the Giants every night...
Oh yeah the Giants. How awesome were the last two games.
I ended up watching the Wednesday game late because I was hanging out at
George's. Little did I know that it was an extra innings game! I was
freaking out when Bengie Molina hit a game tying homer in the 9th off
the greatest closer in baseball. Bengie may not be the prototypical
clean up batter, but he's a hell of a lot more clutch than most of them.
Then it was nerve wracking baseball till the very end when Brian Wilson
ended up giving up one, but holding on to a one lead to save the game in
the 13th. Then tonight the Giants had the best pitcher in baseball Tim
Lincecum and he didn't disappoint. 6 and a third innings of shut out
ball and 8 strike outs. Sure Chris Young may have given up less hits and
struck out two more batters, but it was Tim who didn't make a mistake
and as such was the better pitcher. Take that Padres! Brian Wilson
continues to give me heart attacks every time he pitches, but he
converted another save to give Lincecum a league lead tying 4th win. I
know that the Giants aren't making the playoffs, but I'm already having
a hundred times more fun watching the games this year compared to last
year. Here's to not being in last place!!
Okay I will see you all next week. Remember to come back
and vote starting Monday and I will see you on Friday with a new comic!
River's Favorite Baseball Broadcast Teams
1. Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow - SF Giants (C'mon this is a given, plus
they really are good.)
2. Matt Vasgersian, Tony Gwynn, and Mark Grant - SD Padres (Gwynn is
awesome! He breaks down plays so well and Vasgersian is a great lead
announcer.)
3. Darren Sutton and Mark Grace - Arizona DBacks (The chemistry between
these two is great. The most sarcastic pair in all baseball. Loads of
fun.)
30. Whoever does the St Louis games. These guys were HORRIBLE. Their
chemistry sucked and it just felt awkward when they didn't back each
other)
32. Keith Hernandez - NY Mets (Luckily for the Mets the other two guys
are decent, but Keith Hernandez is beyond bad. I mean how they even let
him in the broadcast booth is beyond me. When your hometown fans are
openly dissing a member of a miracle world champion team, you know
something is wrong. I have yet to meet a Mets fan who was like 'Man I
wish I could be watching this game from home because I sure do miss
hearing Keith Hernandez talk about the most inane things in between his
stories of how awesome he was back when he played!')
