"That last panel was a bitch" Tuesday May 15th, 2007

Sorry the comic is late, but the last panel was a bitch to get done. It was one of those panels that I just couldn't get right. The trouble at first was trying to figure out which angle I wanted to show the Tamon Resshin Ken in. I went with a frontal view at first that showed Kentan's back and Tom's front, but it just didn't convey the power I wanted it to. I like the side view a bit better, but in my mind it still only looks okay. I thought of an idea for the next time Tom uses this power and hopefully I'll like it better when I do it then. Oh and yes, Kentan's bones are in the process of shattering in the final panel as Tom unleashes the great earthquake.

I'll explain the Resshin Ken a bit more here if you got a little lost in the comic. The Seppu Jishin Dan and the Shinkirou Jishin Dan are both powers the cause the Earthshaker to vibrate with the tremors of an earthquake. The problem is that since the tremors are centered on the Earthshaker, energy is lost as the vibrations travel in all directions away from the hammer. The Resshin Ken is a power where Tom produces the tremors and then contains them at the head of his hammer. Once he strikes his target, the pent up tremors explode forth from the impact surface in a conical direction. In this fashion, the enemy will not only get 100% of the energy of the earthquake tremors, but since it is focused through such a small area, the power of the tremors is exponentially greater. It's like when you use a nozzle on a water hose. The result is the Great Earthquake where the epicenter of damage is right at place of impact. The damage dealt is severe as you can see by Kentan's demolished chest.

Well that's about all I have for you right now. I think the only other note of importance is that I will be attending Otakon this year. I won't have a table or anything slick like that since A. I want to be able to enjoy everything at Otakon without being stuck in a room for hours. B. Having a table in artist's alley would be meaningless since I don't really have anything to sell. I know I have a store for NS, but it's really only there so you guys can get NS swag if you want as cheap as you can get it. I don't mark up any of the items and I am not profiting by any of the sales. Maybe if I ever get around to making an NS book, I'll look into a table, but for now I am just going to be wandering the convention hall. If any NS fans are heading out that way and want to meet up, get a quick sketch or anything like that, I will definitely be open for that. I'll mention more about it when we actually get closer to Otakon which will be on the end of July.

That's it for now and I will see you on Friday with the next comic. Did you think this fight was done?

River is sleepy.
