"Yech..."
Monday April 23rd, 2007
Arghh... filler for you guys today. I apologize for not having an
actual comic, but I got pulled in for a surprise shift at work and with
the time the comics are taking, especially with the armor, I need a good
two days to go from my inked drawing to what you see on the site. So
it's basically a two to three day process when it used to be one. I
don't mind for the moment because it's important for me that the comic
looks good and I think the more I do it, the faster I'll get at it. I've
already started poking around a few more shortcuts to see if I can speed
up the process. Anyway my hands hurt like hell. Bartending tends to do a
number on the hands. Maybe it's just at the restaurant where I work...
Who knows.
Anyway I figured I should at least get something out and so I yanked
out one of my favorite sketches of the armored Tom and then wrote a
short thought process behind the ninja armor. I will post the very first
sketch I made of all the characters with the aforementioned
armor-over-normal-clothes when all the characters end up getting their
armor.
I was also going to post some huge diatribe about other things, but I
just don't have the energy to go through with it. bleh.
On a positive note I went to see 300 and Hot Fuzz over the weekend.
300 was a sweet, sweet movie. It wasn't one of the greatest, but I
enjoyed it thoroughly. Hot Fuzz was frickin awesome. I was hoping it
would be okay, but I was kind of reserved. After all could the guys who
gave us Shaun of the Dead give us an equally good movie? I will say that
they succeeded and that I can't wait till the DVD comes out because this
was one of those movies where you couldn't possibly catch everything the
first time through. I remember talking about the movie to George and the
movie was filled with so many good parts from minute to minute that by
the time it ends, you can't remember all the good parts. Unlike a lot of
other comedies, Hot Fuzz is more like a series of small jokes firing off
in rapid succession. Say as compared to a Will Ferrell movie where the
jokes are built up and delivered in iconic lines that end up being
quoted for all time. (Note to all: I am not slamming Will Ferrell at
all. I love him and his movies, but I just used him as the perfect
counterpoint to the comedy found in Hot Fuzz). George brought up a great
point afterwards an said the great thing about Shaun and Fuzz is that if
you took out the funny parts, they would still be pretty excellent and
well written movies and I concur. I highly recommend both movies. "He
killed Bill Shakespeare." "What?!... oh."
Also George got me into the Hush Sound.
Check them out and
enjoy.
