"Ode to Brian Collins" Monday March 5th, 2007

"... and boom goes the dynamite."

The title of the comic comes from a memorable quote from the clip above. ESPN ran the recap story just recently and I thought I would pay some sort of tribute here. This guy had the worst possible sports casting stint for his college tv station. He had a ton of things go wrong which didn't help, but to give him credit he held it together and kept plugging along. So much luck to Brain Collins and hoping you have one bad ass career in journalism.

As for the comic... Kentan is packing some serious heat. Can Tom really hope to beat him with one arm and no Earthshaker? I'll just leave the answer to the next comic as the war between the two continues to escalate. I actually liked how the effects in this comic came out. Some times I have a vision of how I want the CGI effects to come out in the comic. Half the times I think they are okay, sometimes I think they suck hardcore, and other times I am pleasantly surprised that I was able to do a decent job. I don't think the effects in this comic were the splashiest or nicest looking, but coming from the zero expectations I had, I have to say I was pleasantly pleased.

Well before I leave you for the weekend I saw something on Fathobbit's DA page that I had to try for myself. Allow me to cut and paste the instructions and my answers that followed below...

RULES:
1. Put your music player on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question even if it doesn’t make sense. NO CHEATING!
4. Bold the questions and with the answers, give your own comments on how it relates to the questions.

MY ANSWERS:

How are you feeling?
"Come Undone" - Duran Duran
 (I suppose this fits somehow)

Will you get far in life?
"All I Wanna do is Make Love to you" - Heart
(Apparently not far as Heart is telling me to get my groove on instead.)

How do your friends see you?
"Heart & Soul" - Nekki Basara & Emelia
(That was nice of all you to feel that way)

Will you get married?
"Doin' It" - LL Cool J
(Somehow I doubt it, but can you doubt LL?)

What is your best friend's theme tune?
"Who I Am Hates Who I've Been" - Reliant K
(I can't really picture who this fits with, but maybe one of you has some issues with your past)

What is the story of your life?
"Manic Monday" - Bangles
(Not too bad, I hate Mondays, but I swear I ever dreamed about kissing Valentino near a crystal blue stream))

What is high school like?
"That's Just The Way It Is" - Bruce Hornsby
(Perfect really. It's not like you can change the way it was.)

How can you get ahead in life?
"Santa Monica" - Everclear
(By not being your downtime or your stupid game. I gotta live by the ocean and swim past the breakers)

What is the best thing about your friends?
"Stan" - Eminem
(The best thing about my friends is that they are obsessed stalkers of Eminem.)

What is in store for this weekend?
"Roxanne" - The Police
(I guess it's time to head down to the red light district... you don't have to leave the red light on!!!)

Describe your grandparents.
"Leave the Pieces" - The Wreckers
(I don't really know my grandparents well, but if I did I guess they wouldn't take guff from no good man)

How is your life going?
"Old Buddy" - Embarrassing Rex
(Doesn't really fit, but damn can George sing those backup harmonizing vocals!)

What song will they play at your funeral?
"Back 2 Good" - Matchbox Twenty
(Very fitting since Rob Thomas has said this song is about screwing up so many times that you get good at it.)

Will you have a happy life?
"Brick" - Ben Folds Five
(I would say no as this song is depressing as hell.)

What do your friends really think of you?
"Words and Guitar" - Sleater Kinney
(Despite the fact I do like music, my friends would not really think I am a super music buff, that's more George's forte.)

Do people secretly lust after you?
"I Think I Love you" - Less Than Jake
(I am so sorry to whoever is this tortured over thoughts of me.)

How can I make myself happy?
"Swing Life Away" - Rise Against
(We get by just fine on minimum wage, if love is a labor I'll slave till the very end, I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand)

What should you do with your life?
"Piano Man" - Billy Joel
(I suppose I can learn piano to play in bars at nine o clock on Saturday when the regulars shuffle in. I heard Billy Joel hated it though.)

Will you ever have children?
"1000 Times" - Sponge (1,000?!!)

P.S. - After listening to the new FOB album a few more times I have to say I love "thnks fr th mmrs". It almost sounds like a musical number at the start and then it gets more kick ass after that. I enjoyed it... most likely means it'll become a single somewhere down the line.

River went running.
