"Happy New Year"
Sunday - December 31st, 2006
Here is some filler for you all on this brand new year of 2007. Let's
just chalk 2006 up to being pretty sucky and move on from there. I'll be
working all New Years so I hope those of you who do have it off enjoy it
and recuperate from your New Years Eve debauchery. I didn't really do
much for the Eve and I suppose that's par for the course. I'm not big on
the holiday as my family has never really been around during it. Even
when I was a kid, both of my parents usually had to be at the
restaurant. I guess it's no big deal and maybe why I love Thanksgiving.
Any which way I did spend Friday in the city with my good friend Kris
who is not only engaged to a lovely girl named Tiffany, but both of them
will be expecting a young one coming in July. Kris said that if his kid
is born on 7/7/07, he will name him Jesus. I suppose this is a step
above Numchuck, which is what he and Tom swore they would name their
respective kids when they were born. I met up with them and his friend
Krisanne? I have no idea on how to spell it, just how to say it..
at the... Met and we went and checked out the Tiffany collection they
had on special display. I never realized those Tiffany lamps were really
designed by some guy named Tiffany. I thought he just owned the company
who made them. As it turns out, he does own the company that made them,
but he also designed those and the jewelry collection that bears his
name. The guy was a pretty amazing artist.
Afterwards we went over to Brooklyn to eat at the world famous
Grimaldi's pizzeria. It's been seen on a bunch of food shows and was
called one of the five best pizzeria's in the US by the Food Network. I
don't know if it was that good, but it was pretty f'ing good pizza. Very
light and very subtle in taste, but you could tell everything was fresh
and top notch. After lunch I helped Kris by videotaping him reproposing
to Tiffany by the Brooklyn bridge. It was pretty cool and despite our
best efforts, Tiffany was able to figure out what was going on before it
happened.
After that we went back into the city to go to the free night at the
MOMA, but the line was way too fricking long so we went to eat at a Thai
restaurant down in the village instead. I've never had Thai food and
while I thought the pad Thai I had was tasty, I don't know if it's
something I would go and regularly seek out. It had that beef stew vibe
for me. I like it while I'm eating it, but ask me if I want to eat it
and I'll usually be like "no thanks".
We ate dessert at an awesome old school Italian bakery and I had the
best Strawberry Shortcake I've ever had. After that I pretty much headed
home and survived what many refer to the Kris Death March due to the
distance and pace used by Kris when he is leading people around the
City. Well that was a good enough New Year's celebration for me even if
it was a little early. Anyway I hope you all have a great New Years Day
and I'll catch you on Thursday.
