"DaVinci Code?" Wednesday - November 15th, 2006

Well whether or not you're ready, it is indeed time for some football. Those of you who have been going back to Chapter 2 to check out the last confrontation between Tom and Dawson may notice that I used a very similar panel one to Spirit 74. Right down to the words being said... Just what this means I'll leave up to you. I'm kinda pleased with how the last panel turned out. On a side note I don't know if anyone has noticed, but I did change the jerseys for both teams and this year I actually game Kawasaki white jerseys. It really never made sense that BOTH teams last year were wearing colored jerseys. Can you imagine what a nightmare it woulda been to play as you're getting confused on just who is on your team? Yeah.

Anyway today's comic is up a bit late cause my brother and I watched DaVinci Code earlier tonight. I thought it was okay. I mean it was pretty much exactly like the book except they cut out a few scenes. I think they did a good job with the movie. I didn't think I'd get anything when they reveal what the Holy Grail is, but I have to admit I felt a little twinge of excitement just like when I read the book when teabing goes into the whole explanation and revelation. I'm still not sold on Tom Hanks being Robert Langdon. He wasn't bad, but I think I almost woulda preferred some unknown actor. However I think Hanks probably was better than most choices including Harrison Ford. Jean Reno was bad ass. Sophie was alright... didn't bring anything to the table, but didn't take anything either. I thought Magneto did the best out of everyone especially in the scene when he figures out what Langdon did. Very well done Gandalf.

I did notice that they mentioned that they will be making Angels & Demons into a movie. I like DaVinci better, but I honestly think A&D would make a hundred times better movie. There's just a lot more action involved and more of a deadline driving force to the plot. You can say Fache chasing Langdon was the tension and driving force to DaVinci, but you never feel during the movie a true sense of urgency by the heroes. My prediction is that A&D will do a lot better as a movie. Unless they add that ridiculous ending of how Langdon survives his fall. Yeah. I mean I'm pretty forgiving in terms of suspending my rational thought when reading fiction, but come on...

Oh and I caught up and watched all 20 episodes of Powerpuff Girls Z. Like I said the anime got a lot better later on. My additional thoughts on it... the original villains they created for the show all pretty much suck hardcore. The one kid who Bubbles liked had a good backstory, but the problem is the monsters they make look TOO UNLIKE the rest of the established villains. If they had gone original villains through out it wouldn't have been that bad, but the difference between the existing villains like Mojo Jojo and Princess and the new ones like a talking piano and a sentient cell phone signal is pretty fricking huge. However my favorite episodes in the first 20 were the one where Mojo, Gangreen Gang, and Fuzzy team up, the one where the PPG try and find out why Princess keeps transforming causing a ruckus, and the one where Miss Keane tries to keep the girls in class. My view on the real places Z stands out from the original are the maturation of Bubbles, the establishing how Princess becomes Princess, and the kick ass background music for the show. My main gripes are the character direction they went with Blossom and Mojo. Anyway that's my final word on the series...

Anyway I will see you all on Monday where we see the outcome of Brisket V Van Brocklin II!!
