"That was nice" Wednesday - November 2nd, 2005

You were first teased with this kiss in Chapter 3 when Jules really pretended to kiss Dave in order to give him advice on how to beat Kris. You were teased a second time with this kiss earlier in this very chapter when Izumi used Dave's fondness for Julienne to poison him. Well as you can see the third time's the charm. I don't know if everyone is happy with this turn of events, but I think most people can relate to that uplifting feeling Dave must be feeling at this point in the comic.

As for his response of "that was nice"? It actually has nothing to do with the real Julienne or Dave. I uttered those very words when I received an unexpected kiss from a girl back in my college days. Just an awkward situation since I hadn't been expecting the kiss at all. It ran as follows. Our frat party was over and since I lived in the frat house at the time I was doing some light cleaning. This girl who was one of our regulars showed up looking for her friends. I was talking to her and BAM! she leans up and kisses me pretty much like Julienne does to Dave in this comic. I'd like to say things worked out, but unfortunately the girl had a boyfriend and I don't mess around with other dude's girls or girls who kiss other guys who don't happen to be their boyfriends. Though to her credit she regretted the kiss afterwards and after I uttered the now famous "that was nice" line she followed with "And it never happened." Just a weird, weird night. I still talked to both girl and boyfriend after that at parties and other places and it we were cool as hell. No regrets or odd feelings. It was never weird cause like she said we both seemed to agree "it never happened."

However as you can see these things have a way of "happening" in other places. As always I try and put a bit of myself into these comics so when you see something that looks really cheesy, you know it was done in real life. I'm a cheesy kind of guy. I won't even get into how I asked The Kelly out. Embarrassment city. All I gotta say is "Cool Deal". God, I was/am so lame.

At any rate Dave doesn't have to deal with the exact same situation as me and things end a bit better for him. Which I think is a good thing. Sometimes what shy guys need is to have girl just come up tell them she likes him to get his ass in gear. Although you will notice I took very great care in not having Julienne say if she liked him or that she wanted to go out with him. Girls are slick like that. Or conversely guys are dumb like that. Maybe girls are a bit too vague in what they perceive to be a signal that they like a guy. Maybe guys just need to be hit in the head with a brick before they get the signal. That is the dance of love my friends.

Alright enough rambling...
