"And another Chapter in the books" Thursday - July 13th, 2005

Today's Filler art comes to us from FatHobbit. Here is a link to her webcomic Adventures of the Weird. It's a pretty funny read so go check it out if you like. I am just happy as hell with Fathobbit's contribution to the NS page. Check out her Deviantart site to check out some more of her fabul artwork! She thinks Dave is a rather cool character and I am inclined to agree. I'm busy creating the fanart section of the website where this, StratusFox's and Thursday's fanart will go once this fanart week ends.

I'll talk more about Chapter Four in Thursday's post and talk more about Chapter Three today. M0ost of the feedback I've received so far about Chapter Three has been good. People have liked the direction of the comic and the interaction of the characters. I knew I had wanted Joe and Kelly to be bad, but I also wanted it to be that they really weren't bad. I think it worked out well.

Some people have noticed that the comic seems to have been more of a parody in the beginning and has turned more into a serious comic now. I just wanted to mention that it has been a conscious effort to do that. The first reason being that when the comic started the story was a little slow to start and with no vested interest in the characters it was hard to keep reading once you found the comic. By making it sort of a gag-a-comic type of a deal. It gave an instant payoff each week as well as advanced a overflowing story arc. Once I was able to get to the action I felt the comic would be able to capture people without resorting the parody inspired jokes. With the story firmly in place and a chapter in the archive, Ninja Spirit was ready to battle the more serious tones and become less of a gag-a-comic type of a deal. That's the practical side of it.

The imaginative side is that I imagined that in the very beginning the characters themselves didn't really believe the situation they were in. It all seemed like a joke and they treated it like one. They held an immature view of the world and thought nothing could every hurt them. As the comic has progressed, things have become less funny and more serious for the characters. As they became more mature and took things more seriously, the comic itself evolved to follow suit. So like I said this is the romantic view of why the comic's tone has changed. Neither view outweighed the other and I feel that it was for the best.

Again the comic itself would not be here and would not have reached Chapter three's conclusion without them. So here is a quick list of thank you's. Thanks first to The Kelly for she is always patient, kind, takes care of my worthless ass, and provides me with hot latin loving. Thanks to my friends Joe, Gza, Dave, Tom, Rob, Kris, Jay, Brian, and Adia. Gza and Rob have been both a source of software, help, and advice for me during the making of Chapter Three. My family is always been a great support and much thanks goes to my bro. As for everyone online and on the forum, thanks for helping support and spreading the comic out to your friends. It because of all of you that I find myself half asleep at 5 AM Sunday and Wednesday mornings wondering what the hell I'm doing and then grind it out to finish a comic.

Thank you all.

River says thanks
