"Otakon Report Part 2" Wednesday - August 4th, 2004

On Saturday, Dave and I  woke up and hit the webcomic panel which included panelists from Machall, Applegeeks, Little Gamers, Schism, VG Cats, Avalon, and one other one that I can't recall right now. It was a fun panel though and to watch the those guys up there made me think it'd be cool just to be able to joke around with other artists and such. After that we went back to Artists Alley to look at the Art auction stuff. there was only one piece I really wanted. It was a smaller landscape oriented picture of the Naruto team 7. The style wasn't exact, but I liked it just the same.

Then the harshness started as we went tot he line for the L'arc-en-ciel concert. I have never, EVER, been on a line as long as this. It was seriously one of those you had to be there moments. The line goes down the street the arena is on, around the corner, down two city blocks, across the street, down two more city blocks, around another corner, then it winded back and forth three times down one block till it finally went across one more street and down the sidewalk the convention center was on. It was a line of humanity I had never seen the likes of before.

We endured and were treated to the very first episode of Full Metal Alchemist while we waited for the show. The L'arc was awesome!! They had a great set and the crowd really got into them. It's too bad a majority didn't really get into their established singles like Stay Away and instead cheered loudest for their known anime themes. It was still a great show and afterwards we headed back to the hotel room to freshen up some and regroup.

After we ate dinner, I found someone's wallet on the ground of the food court and did my best to find her. According to her info in the wallet, her name was Betty Chin and she was staying in the Hyatt. I felt really bad because I'm sure she would need her wallet and while I tried, I could not find her. I left the wallet with the mall security and I felt bad about that. In hindsight we should've just dropped it off at the hotel. Dave and I did however go to the hotel to let them know that the wallet was going to be located at the mall's lost and found should Betty call in trying to find her wallet at the hotel. Hopefully she found it.

We chilled out in Mike, Seth, and Beth's room for a bit watching some cheesy Anthony Hopkins, Baldwin brother movie. They were fighting some seriously pissed off bear. I don't know about you, but I coulda swore Hopkins already did this movie, but it was in Africa, minus the Baldwin, and replace the bear with a lion. At any rate it provided everyone in the room with ample material for an impromptu mst2k session.

After that we headed back to the convention center to catch the 35mm screening of Zaitochi, the blind samurai. Judging by the size of the line when we got there it was supposedly a good movie. Dave and I decided not to wait in line and jumped into the room next door which was once again showing fan parodies. We saw a cool one about pirating music and then the crowd favorite Evangelion Redeath. The latter was done by the same people who had down the Nescaflowne one the night before. We expected greatness and while it wasn't as good as Nescaflowne, I found it very funny in parts. Especially the parts with Gendo and his theme music. Classic.

After the fan parodies we decided to see if we could hit Artist's Alley one more time and were disappointed to find it rather deserted at around 11PM. So instead of going to see another movie, Dave and I called it a night. The next day we would head back to Otakon one last time to buy some major swag!!
