"Weekend of Pain!" Sunday - June 6th, 2004

Okay so NS is back and I for one am glad. It was nice to have the time off to work on other things and just relax during my week off. However I was anxious to return to the story and comic. I hope you enjoyed the comic today. Before I do get to today's comic, I guess I'll start on what's been going on this past weekend.

Pain.

That's right, starting Friday night I was wracked with massive pains in my jaw thanks to either an abscess or infection in my tooth. However before get there I guess I should really start by saying Thursday was pretty awesome. My friend Tom came up from Albany to spend that night and Friday. So on Friday night we watched some TV and then played Fifa Soccer into the wee hours of the morning just like  the old college days. It was just an awesome time. I can't really describe it since you have to enjoy playing sports games with friends to know what I'm talking about. I will plainly say that we won the F.A Cup in dramatic style that will be remembered for a long time to come.

Friday came along and while my tooth was starting to become sore, we went out to Rachacha to eat at Tahou's. It was great as usual, but I think that goes without saying. If the plates had been a bit more full they might've scored higher than the 8 out of 10 Tom and I gave them. By the time I got back to Syracuse, my tooth was just starting to really hurt. I mean I really wanted to go out and do something, but I was just incapacitated from the pain. I healthy dose of ambesol and double dose of Tylenol keep things in check long enough to watch a little TV before passing out in bed.

Tom left the following morning without waking me which I was thankful for since when I did wake up to go to work my tooth had gone from being a bearable pain to downright I'm-going-to-rip-this-tooth-out-myself pain. I did go to work, but the pain was so bad I started calling dentists. Anyone who knows me know how much I hate going to the dentist. For me to willingly seek their help meant I was in dire straights indeed. The earliest appointment I could make was for Wednesday, but luckily I was able to make an appointment with my doctor later in the day. I was let out of work and I headed right for the voodoo man and his wonderful drugs.

After another hour of waiting in pain in the waiting room, I finally got in to see the doc. He looked at my tooth and muttered something along the lines of "another one...". He admonished my dental hygiene practices and promised to help me if I promised to keep my appointment with the tooth doctor. I agreed and he tossed my a prescription for antibiotics for what he thought was a growing abscess and what I really craved... painkillers. Vicadin to be exact.

So then it was off the to the pharmacist and home. Once there I took my drugs and fell right to sleep. Bliss. When I woke up, the pain had subsided, but I now have a huge lump in my lower gum line right underneath the tooth that had been hurting. I think the lump is large enough to actually see through my cheek, but The Kelly thinks otherwise. I think I should point out that The Kelly is pretty blind.

I did end up going to see Potter later that night after I loaded up with a second round of drugs. I thought it was pretty good. It was definitely better than the last two movies, but it also felt disjointed. In retrospect, I think it's because PoA is a much larger book than Chamber or SS. I also think my expectations for the movie were too high considering that PoA is my favorite book of the five Potter's so far. Somehow the amazing conclusion of the book didn't translate to the big screen. Also, you almost forget how little you see of Sirius in PoA. In the movie this means you see Gary Oldman for all of 15 minutes, if that. I don't know... it was good, but wasn't great.

So here we are on Sunday, NS is back and I have a lump in my gum line. My tooth is buzzing with a slight pain and my body is just feeling worn down and weak from the painkillers and antibiotics. I think it's the antibiotics more than the painkillers really. However the important thing is that NS is back on schedule.

I'm sure after having all the extra time to work on this comic I wouldn't have too many problems with the art, but I do have some. I think I messed up Yuki's expression in P8. I had to draw the last panel 3 or 4 times too. I ended up using the second sketch I drew. I  had a side view and then one where Julienne is more 3/4 than side view for the head, but the one I used seemed to work the best. After coloring and finishing it, I like it and how it turned out.

But what you really want to know is why Julienne jumped in front of Yuki to save him? I really can't say, but I have a feeling you'll find out on Thursday. Or do you really want to know if Tenko killed Beth to steal the Hyourinken? I really can't tell you that either, but you'll have an answer before this chapter ends. Will Julienne survive this attack when she was only just recently added to the 'Which NS character are you quiz'? You should know by now that all these questions are rhetorical. When will you get the answer? Soon. Real soon. So be sure to come back on Thursday as we delve into this new interesting twist!!
