"The weekend of sleep" Sunday - February 22nd, 2004

Like the header says, I did pretty much nothing this weekend besides sleep. It was wonderful.

I watched the 39 Steps by Alfred Hitchcock this weekend with The Kelly. It was pretty good. Not the greatest, but still entertaining. We also watched The Hypnotist. It's a Japanese import movie. We had seen the trailer for it on the Princess Blade DVD and so The Kelly hunted it down and ordered over the blessed internet. The movie was excellent. It was a mix of suspense and horror that was a bit similar in tone to the original Japanese Ring. It even contained the shocking scene near the end that was part exorcist, part Ringu, and all sorts of messed up. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys decent horror movies and doesn't mind reading subtitles.

Well since there wasn't much going on this weekend, let's move on to the comic.

Nothing really bad going on with Spirit 95. The animated gif is probably what everyone is focusing on so I'll talk about that in more detail. The resolution isn't as high as I want it, but the size of the file forced me to this end. Some people might be put off that there isn't a face on Tom throughout the gif and I can only say it was a matter of both time constraint and laziness. Hopefully people don't mind much. I really just wanted to use the gif as a more clear definition of what Tom was doing with his "Seppu Jishin Dan".

Not much storyline since this is a action sequence, but I will mention a couple of things. That "baki" sound effect is used more in Japanese comics and if you haven't figured out what it stands for then you will next comic. The other thing I wanted to mention is that I realized just this weekend that for the last 30 or so strips, I had been creating the scripts in Japanese. I usually have them written out, but recently I had been using off times in my day to think of the scripts and invariably whenever I think of comic sequences in my head, they always come out in Japanese. I think it's from reading manga and being so heavily influenced by it.

So now when I write out the scripts in the comic I have to reverse translate them back into English and I get the feeling that it doesn't quite come off looking like flowing English. I really wish there was some magical converter, because some things just come off sounding better in Japanese since there aren't always English equivalents sometimes. I'll try and do better, but just so you all know in the future if you see something sound weird in the comic, this is the reason.

Anyways, that's about it. Looks like Dave is in dire straights. Though I wouldn't count out Btwys-y-Cawr just yet, Tom just isn't finished yet either. So it looks like Dave is going to have face a difficult choice. As will Joe and Julienne!!! See ya this Thursday!!

Vote for Ninja Spirit!!

River is feeling refreshed.
