"Will Tom Brisket be the next Bo Jackson?" Wednesday - December 10th, 2003

Can't really write much right now cause I need some sleep. SSDD.

I will say that this strip gave me a ton of trouble and I had to really go and do some research into drawing football action poses and how football padding is supposed to look. As a result I think I did it pretty decent and I'm actually pretty proud of the way this strip turned out. Sure it could've been better, but in my mind I knew that this was a major achievement for my own creativeness you can say.

I really had planned for this football sequence to go on for a couple more strips, but I think I'm going to cut it short and just get right back to the story. It's a shame though because I am a huge fan of sports movies and comics. Sports comics are something that is truly lacking in the US market. I grew up reading Captain Tsubasa and Slam Dunk and as a result have a certain fondness for the genre.

Although I should assume this is one of the very few attempts to draw an American football game in an anime style way. I'm not saying it's the first, but I gotta imagine that there aren't that many.

The last panel and the title of the strip is a direct tip off to one of the best football games of all time, Tecmo Bowl for the NES. Speaking of which, here's an old Sports Guy column discussing Tecmo Bowl and the penultimate video game jock, Bo Jackson.

Oh and for those of you who don't go into the forum at all, please be sure to check out the Bonus page. I just put up a link to a "Which Ninja Spirit Character Are You?" quiz. Be sure to check it out cause it's the bomb in Phantoms yo.

Alright sleep... I'll catch you all again next week when we see just how the game turns out!!

PS- Thanks again to everyone who voted for me!! We're back in the top ten for Action comics!!

Vote for Ninja Spirit!!

River is all about sports action!!
