"That's Captain... Captain Jack Sparrow" Sunday - December 7th, 2003 The weekend has come and gone with little incident. My throat feels a lot better and is almost back to 100%. Which is definitely super star in my book. The Kelly and I bunked in and watched two movies on Saturday and I feel I will talk about them here. I have already talked about the second of the movies we watched in previous posts. After relentless torturing by Rob and myself, The Kelly broke down and bought Pirates of the Caribbean. If you haven't seen the movie yet, go rent or buy it. Johnny Depp is amazing and after watching it a second time I realized that they definitely threw in EVERY pirate cliché known to man in this movie. I mean swabbing decks, peg legs, pirates with parrots, pirates with monkeys, the pirate vocabs complete with ARRRR's and MATEY, walking planks, treasure, you name it, it's in there. It was easily the best movie of the year. Well at least till December 17th rolls around... The second movie is a much more obscure title that Rob had let me borrow on Friday. The movie is titles Princess Blade and is an import from the good ole Land of the Rising Fun. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised to watch a pretty good movie. You won't find your typical Hollywood spin here. The action is TOP NOTCH. Some of the moves have to be seen to be truly appreciated and the gore was a tad much for The Kelly to bear. Some of the scenes were just awesome in the way they were put together. The imagery kicked ass. The story itself is decent and the only problem I really had was that the not enough was explained with the main guy lead's back story. The Kelly didn't like the ending, but I thought it was brilliant. Some may think it ends abruptly or without enough epilogue explanation, but I think it lends to a more introspective ideal. I loved the movie, but I wouldn't expect much for those not accustomed to Japanese taste in cinema. I definitely still recommend it and urge everyone to give it a shot. This strip starts Month 10 of Ninja Spirit. Actually I measure the comic in terms of strips. It's actually been going for about ten months and a half due to the four "extra" strips like Omake, production sheets, and bonus images. Anyway it still feels like the comic has been going for longer then that. I gotta admit that the comic is still very enjoyable to do. I feel better about this strip then I do my last. I loved the way P2 and P4 came out. Speaking of P4, we finally get to see the last of Chapter One holdovers Kelly and Key in their new Chapter Two redesigns. Well you actually got to see them with the bonus Thanksgiving pic, but this is the official strip. As you can see Key hasn't changed much, but Kelly's hair has grown out and is now looking quite different from her Chapter One look. As for the storyline, I'm sure some of you will be saddened to know that a conversation between Kelly and Key had been cut because of the disjointed feel it would've given the comic given that the action had already shifted scenes once already while at the football game. This way, you still get to see the girls, but it flows a bit better. Oh and I wish I could've done it a bit better, but the fact that I had to keep the story moving didn't allow me to really introduce Dawson van Brocklin. I'm sure a ton of people were wondering who the guy in Kawasaki colors was and I'm just confirming any initial thoughts that it is indeed the Defensive super freshman mentioned in Spirit 71. So I think that's it. Enjoy and I'll see you all on Thursday.
