"The Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria" Sunday - October 8th, 2003

Happy Columbus Day to everyone. It's good to know we still live in the days of good ole Chris Columbus. I am referring to the fact that once again the judicial system feels that it is perfectly fine for a professional football team to be named a racial slur. For as long as I can remember the Native Americans have been lobbying to get the Washington REDSKINS to change the name of their team to something less offensive. Like I mentioned before, the presiding judge threw out the case and deemed it okay for a team called the Redskins to exist. I mean I could see if Washington at least tried to hide the fact that the Redskins referred to Native Americans, but they use a goddamn red skinned native American bust as their logo. There are some things that are not right in the world and that is one of them.

I swear, it just seems that for some reason or another, everyone in this nation seems to overlook issues like this and concentrate on things less noteworthy. Rush Limbaugh is addicted to pain killers!!! Ooooooo.... What about the fact that American troops are still getting killed overseas? It's sad to think that more troops have died after the war was over then died during it.

Whatever. It's not about that I oppose or support military action, but I think this nation's casual indifference to bloodshed is a disturbing trend. Anyway, I'll get off the soapbox now.

My friend Tom and Mark came up from Albany yesterday. We sat around and chilled at my place for a while. Actually we placed Grand Theft Auto VC. So that was fun, but the real fun had yet to begin. We headed out to Rochester to visit the Promise Land later in the night. The trip was fun with some rocking tunes from a 70's and 80's mix cd. We ate our Garbage Plates of course. Tom attempted two after being egged on by Mark and I am very sad to report that he failed in his quest for two. It should be noted that being able to eat two Garbage Plate is a very hard feat and in the hundreds of times that both Tom and I have been to Tahoe's we have only done it a combined 8 times. So with a heavy heart we left Tahoe's.

We hit Wegmans and Krispy Kreme after as is our usual ritual. We got back into Syracuse at around 2 and then Tom and I played two games of Madden. Good games, but I think the fact that I play the game almost daily helped me to two big wins. Tom and mark then headed out a little before 5. I hope they got home safely...

The only other piece of news I wanted to share with you all was the fact that Witch Hunter Robin totally kicks ass!!! It's a new anime that came out in Japan a year ago and is produced by the heavyweight Sunrise Studios. It's got a total X-Files vibe to it as a secret Japanese government agency hunts down individuals who have supernatural powers. Rob let me borrow the first DVD and so far it's been superb. The art is top notch and flawless. The music is decent. I think at times it almost sounds like game music. The storyline is still in its infancy so I can't tell how complex it's going to get, but everything has been super so far. I myself am going to start getting it and I recommend it to anyone looking into a new anime series. The DVD just came out a week ago and costs around 22 bucks.

We're in the homestretch now folks. Yuki knows his chances to take down Lord Hawk are dwindling and as can be guessed, he is hoping his new plan works. Who knows if it will?

As far as the art goes, I think everything turned out okay. The only hard part was P4. I ended up redrawing it a couple of time before I got something I liked. On the other hand I had to do a bit of work post scanning because when I drew out this week's comic, I forgot to add in the torn clothing and such. It added some time to the preparation time, but it all still worked out. Phrew...

I think the last time I checked NS was up to 238 on the BCX polls. Wow. I never imagined that I'd get that many votes so thank you very much. I don't think NS will ever be a popular webcomic, but I'm still glad that there that many of you who enjoy the comic. Again, thanks. If you still want some more NS fun, be sure to head over to the NS Forum. It's been fairly active over the last few days thanks to Ashleigh. So if you want to join in the festivities, then please do so. We're in the middle of trying to figure out new designs for merchandise as well as predicting some new things to come in Chapter Two. Good times my friends.

River is says hi.
