"Lycans VS Vampire" Sunday - September 28th, 2003 Underworld. I went to see it this weekend. I give it my seal of approval. It wasn't the greatest movie to ever grace the screen, but it is one of the best werewolf movies in existence. There were definitely holes in the movie and in the CGI, but I didn't mind it too much. I think the plot was better then most critics thought. Though that might be because of my predisposition to liking vampire VS werewolf movies. Maybe it's more of a niche movie then a full blown action blockbuster. Despite all the trailers toting it as a gothic version of the Matrix, I think like the Matrix, the movie is being billed for that only to get people looking for a quick action fix to go see it. Underworld, like Matrix, possesses a surprisingly deep storyline with more than a few twists. The action scenes are fewer then you think, but I didn't mind much at all. Then again I do like Vampires and Werewolves. Those that don't and are looking for flashy action sequences might not get the movie and might even think it sucks. F them. All in all the movie was about a 6 or 7 out of ten. Hopefully they'll be another one with an even better and fleshed out storyline... like the Matrix. Actually when The Kelly and I went to go see Underworld on Saturday night, we almost went to go see something else. We had been hemming and hawing back and forth about what movie to see. We had thought about Rundown, Cold something Manor, and Cabin Fever. Kelly had been lobbying for Cold Stone Manor while I had been hoping to go see Underworld. I eventually caved and we were going to go see Cold Creek Manor. Then while we were waiting to buy tickets the Kelly overheard someone professing their undying hatred about Cold Cream Manor. She balked and then offered up a choice between Rundown and Underworld. Don't get me wrong, I love The Rock and I think the Rundown will be funny as hell, but we're talking like "real" werewolves. No contest. So we watched Underworld and The Kelly even managed to find it fun and enjoyed the movie almost as much as I did. In other news, I finally broke down and bought the "When Darkness Comes" board game. I had been looking at it for months now and after losing it on EBay no less than three times, the time had come to break down and buy it at our local game store. We played it and found it enjoyable. It's a game that involves using tiles as your game board, but the trick is that most of the times they are left upside down and as you move from tile to tile, you uncover them and the goodies and baddies located therein. Kelly created a Rock climber/Thief named Voldemort Potter. I don't know... she's a crazy lady. Voldemort's fun started on a trip to his grandpapa Harry's house with his friend Steve McSteve who he met at Rock-climbing school. When they arrived at Harry's house they found Harry eating his pet owl and very much a member of the walking dead. Good ole VH did what came naturally and killed his grandpapa with no remorse. Chaos ensued as VH and Steve ran through town trying to find safety. Eventually The Kelly ended up killing Steve when he exhibited signs of joining the undead ranks as well as killing him a second time when the Zombie boss showed up with Mr. McSteve in tow. Not a bad game at all. Speaking of Kelly, she seems to be the focus of today's comic. I like the way she has been coming out recently though. I think I have finally settled on a more definite look for her. I had been doing a general thing for her hair for some time now, but it's finally become pretty concrete. The angle of Yuki in Panel 2 was a nice touch I think. It breaks up some of the monotony. The animated gif in Panel 3 seems to work as well. I don't really have much more to say about today's comic. Unlike Thursday's strip, this one came pretty easily. I guess that's the way these things go. As for the story, I guess it'll become a reoccurring theme to have Kelly be the voice of reason for Yuki as she finally gets his head on straight again. Although I guess it comes at being the "you shouldn't have turned your back to the main bad guy that long character" Leave it to Lord Hawk to not settle for a simple backhand. So now we finally have Yuki facing Lord Hawk with his Hyourinken. Will it make a difference? You'll just have to wait to find out...
