"The Ankle Clip" Wednesday - August 5th, 2003

So who else is ready for some football? Do you know why I like football? It's not because I like a particular team. Unlike every other major sport in existence, I have no favorite football team. What football has in its favor is how it is set up. Every week counts and contains itself over a weekend at a time. This in turn makes it the ultimate fantasy sport. Which really becomes the heart of the matter. Fantasy football. it just brings a tear to your eye doesn't it?

I myself have had some incredible luck over my fantasy football career, but at the same time I've found that the person who manages to pick up the hot player that didn't get drafted comes out on top. Last year I had used my first pick to get Shaun Alexander and in succession picked McNabb and then Corey Dillon. Shaun had a let down year. Dillon sucked. McNabb got hurt. I let go of Vick to get Clinton Portis and then nabbed Pennington. Both players enabled me to make the playoffs and in turn repeat as Champion.

All about being able to smell who is going to be hot and differentiate that between who just had a good week, but that's as far as it goes. I had my share of duds, but like poker, you gotta know when to fold and when to hold. Probability says that I won't three-peat, but that doesn't mean I wont try.

Does anyone else out there love Slamball? I love it to death. Most people liken it to a video game version of basketball. I prefer to think of it as the amped up super saiyajin anime version of basketball. You might think it's all about dunking, but it's really well balanced and the rules make it a very strategic game. It plays on TNN on Monday nights at 11PM on the east coast. I encourage you all to watch it.

Speaking of which, they had a special on before the first game of this season which showed sort of the behind the scenes of the off season for slamball. It was a cool show and it gave you a nice primer for the upcoming season. They also had one of the most, if not the worst sports injury I have every seen on TV. Go to this page and click on ankle clip. The quality sucks, but if you pause and look closely, you can see that the guy's ankle is completely separated from the rest of his leg. We're talking 90 degree angle, hanging on only by skin. It was grade A nasty.

Since I've been mentioning Rob recently, I might as well continue the trend today. he gave me a cd of his artwork that I still have yet to look at. I would've tonight, but I had the comic to do. it contains that logo I had talked about earlier in the week. Maybe I'll see if I can post it so you can all know what the hell I'm talking about.

Now for Spirit 42...this was one of those comics that was just heavy on words. I rewrote it numerous times to get it to fit. In fact, the next comic was actually a part of today's comic till I decided to split it into two comics. I think this comic shows that Misaki isn't as retarded as I have made him seem to be. he can on occasion be somewhat witty.

The art is par for the course I guess. I did like the way panel 2 came out. I've also been experimenting with scaling my drawings post scanning. In other words, I draw things large and out of scale. Once everything is in and colored, I then scale the different parts of the panel to get everything in perspective. I don't know if it works or not, but it does make the drawings more crisp and detailed when they get small in the panel.

Before I forget, I also wanted to ask anyone who reads this to maybe send some feedback about the new V 1.5 design of the webpage and what you thought. Is it okay? Does it suck? Should I have not messed around with what was already a good design? Let me know.

River is working hard.
