| "Gore Verbinski is my hero" Wednesday - July
9th, 2003 I went with The Kelly to go see Pirates of the Caribbean tonight. The movie kicked so much ass it's not even funny. The acting was superb and I'd have to say that Johnny Depp was the F'in coolest guy ever. Hell I'm about to rename my dog Captain Gai Sparrow of the Seven Daigoji Seas in his honor. The acting in general was superb. The movie flowed smoothly from being a comedy, an action movie, and a supernatural movie. I'd have to say that it was the best movie I've seen this year. It's amazing how much Gore fit into this movie. I mean he managed to throw in almost every pirate cliché and not have it be too campy or cheesy at all. I think the only thing he missed was a peg leg and I'm sure there was one in the background somewhere in one of the scenes. One thing I noticed is that they managed to film one scene as if it were straight out of Disneyworld's ride of the same name. I haven't been there in 3 years or so, but I swear it's almost exact pose for pose in the pirate town scene. Anyway do yourself a favor and see this movie cause it doesn't get much better then this. I have mixed feelings about Spirit 34. I look at it and sometimes I like what I see and other times it just doesn't seem quite right. I actually like Panel 1 the best. I had this strip in mind for a while now. I was originally going to go straight from Spirit 32 right to this one, but added Monday's strip as an additional setup. You'll have to decide if the extra strip was worth it. I think it was.
