"One of These Days" Sunday - July 6th, 2003

Once again I am going to have to short post for lack of time. The holiday weekend was to blame and as I mentioned I went down to Long Island. Needless to say good times were had my friends. I promise to post again tomorrow in more detail. I still need to discuss last week's spirit 32 as well. So figure on a decent sized post to come.

River is guilty of slacking.

"Pimp Slap Big Combo" Tuesday - July 10th, 2003

Okay so here I am with the post that has been a long time coming. I can't even remember half of the things I was going to talk about. Let's start with the weekend of the 4th. I drove down to LI on the 3rd. the drive wasn't bad at all. Spent Friday shopping with The Kelly and spending some time with my mom.

My mom is still feeling weak, but is doing very well. She is up and about and was able to finish her dinner when we ate grilled steaks on the bbq. Definitely help put me at ease to finally be able to see her and actually see for myself how she was doing.

Friday night, I went out with Dave and George to see 27 Days Later. Didn't realize it was going to be an independent film, but that didn't distract from the pleasure of the movie. It wasn't the greatest movie, but it was well done and didn't suck as most horror movies are prone to do. I think that is one of the biggest praises you can give to a horror movie. "It didn't suck" It ranks there right up above "it started so well and had amazing potential".

So the movie was good and if you like horror movies then by all means go see it. I'm probably going to go try and see Pirate of the Caribbean this weekend, but we'll see how that goes.

I also got to try out a new card game that was lent to me by Rob at work. It's called Lunch Money and the game is supposed to represent a school yard fight, hence the name. It takes a moment to get used to the rule and you'll find yourself passing the instructions back and forth a couple of times, but once you get the hang of it, the game flies as attacks and combos are laid out at breakneck fashion. The style of the cards is amazing as it forgoes any cheesy artwork in favor of dark and disturbing photos. I'd suggest giving it a try if you have a few friends over.

Alright moving along now. On Saturday, Dave, the Kelly, and I went to Six Flags great Adventure in New Jersey. Good times except for the fact that it was way to F'in hot. Plus it was muggy. We constantly cooled ourselves off at our favorite ride "hanging bucket pouring out a shower of water". The new Superman was indeed as excellent as I believed it to be. It's a rollercoaster that you ride belly down. Definitely gives you that feeling of flying. It still wasn't as good as Nitro in my opinion, but I have a fondness for going insanely fast on rollercoasters.

The rest of the weekend consisted of a lunch at Gasho's with my fam and the drive back to Syracuse. That brings me back to the here and now.

And by here and now I mean Spirit 32 and 33. I'll start with 32. I liked the way it came out. I liked panel 2 with Tenko. I think it could've been built a little better, but what am I going to do? I think you get a pretty good idea of the likes Kelly has just by the various things I've thrown in her room over the course of the last few strips.

I liked Spirit 33 as it meant a new change of scenery and that was welcome after almost 3 weeks in Kelly's room. I redid how I do trees in the background and I think they came out better then usual. I even liked the way panel 2 came out even though I was worried that it might not look right. I also love Kelly's expression in P3. My only gripe comes from P4 and had I had the time, I think I probably would've done it over. However with the holiday weekend, I was short on time and the panel stayed. I also don't like the thought bubble as it seems Yuki might be doing the thinking rather then Kelly at first glance. I'll try better next time.

River apologizes for late posts.
