"Nevermind" Friday - June 20th, 2003

I am now listening to a playlist that includes every non J-pop, J-rock, anime song I own. And while I think the Pumpkins were great and rules the music world in '96, I can see how none of their songs broke into the greatest 100 songs of the last 25 years. How many non-Pumpkin fans say that their top 5 songs include a Pumpkins song?

It was Disarm that finally got me into music and not be just a casual Top 50 list music fan and for that I always reserve a special spot in my heart for the Pumpkins. Do I listen to their songs a whole lot? Not so much right now, but you can believe that I crank it whenever I hear them played on the radio.

However watching the whole greatest 100 songs got me thinking about what my own personal list of the greatest 100 songs ever would be. I would have to not only calculate how great I thought the song was, but also what kind of impact it had on my life and how inspirational it was to me. So maybe I'll get along to do doing that.

Anyway I have to say I'm 20% done with Spirit 29, but not to worry it'll be out on time!!

"Happy Birthday, Harry Potta in tha muther F'in house" Sunday - June 22nd, 2003

Like the rest of the world I have my copy of the Order of the Phoenix and like I expected it is quite unlike the rest of the books. What amazes me right at the moment is how well JK Rowling can capture the essence of being a kid. Yes, we all know Harry is growing up each year, but she makes it more then just saying here he is a year later. He's not some wide eyed kid anymore and acts more like the fledgling teenager that most of us were or are.

I don't want to talk about book specifics because I know some of you might not have had a chance to read it or get it yet even. I feel for you. If it hadn't been for The Kelly, I would've been stuck at work and unable to get my copy. (which beckons me to read it even as I type this)

Today is also my birthday and I had forgotten it was. I guess it's a big deal, but at the same time it isn't. I got the best birthday present ever this year. I have my mom recovering and healthy. You can't buy stuff like that and my birthday really takes a backseat to things like that.

My mom should any of you be wondering is doing fine. She is actually up and about and while she is still weak, she is feeling better as each day passes. My mom's brother who happens to be my favorite uncle flew in from Japan and is spending a week with her. I'm sad that I'm not there, but those are the breaks. I'm probably going down to see if I can catch him and see my mom this next weekend.

We had our year end inventory at the Bookstore. It was boring as hell, but it wasn't so bad. I mean we finished sooner then I thought. The worst part was that we did it yesterday on Saturday. Though it's nice to dress down and chat up with coworkers that I am still in the process of getting to know. Never met a better batch of people to work with really and it makes work that much better.

Anyway I'm kind of looking forward to the next and final day of year end inventory  as weird as it sounds. I like the fact that everyone is in a more... hmmm... casual mood I'd say. Who knows though? Maybe books will suck ass. I doubt it.

Oh and before I forget I watched Old School this weekend. It showed promise and the actors played their parts well. the movie just suffered from a weak script to a weak director. the movie felt so choppy and disjointed at times. Oh, and it made me want to kill Craig Kilborn, who I have been a fan of since his ESPN days. Dude cannot act.

Spirit 29? I had trouble with the script. Just couldn't really find a happy medium with it. The scripts for the next few strips came out easy as apple pie, but 29 just had to be forced out with the Jaws of Life. Panel 1 and 4 came out well. I hate 3. I think it's poor and I'll leave it at that since I'm trying to take some advice to not be too hard on the work.

Speaking of which, I have to say thanks to AJ. Giving props to the First.

I know a lot of you are wondering about last spirit's title and even more could care less. However in the interest that someone might actually get the obscure reference I'll leave it as an unsolved mystery.

River feels loved.
